A friend in need is a friend indeed
A friend in need is a friend indeed. This phrase summarizes what friendship is. A friend is someone who is there not only in good times but also when you are in need.
James 2:23
And the scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.
Abraham was regarded as a friend of God simply because he exercised his faith in God and did that which God needed him to do. Abraham was faithful when he was called by God to leave the land of Haran to go to Canaan. Abraham believed in God and took that step of faith. He acted as a friend when God was in “need” of someone to form a generation of His people.
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
John 15:13
Greater love has no man than this, that a man lays down his life for His friends.
We, the human race, were in a crisis as a result of sin. We were in need. The penalty that was placed on us was that which we could not pay but what a friend we have in Jesus. He saw our need, and because He regards us as His friends, He laid down His life; He died on the cross to set us free. God is truly a friend because He was there for us when we were in dire need of Him.
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
Is that the case for you and me? Are we really friends of God?
God is in “need” of a people who will visit Him in prisons, clothe Him when naked, and visit Him when sick. (Matthew 25:36)
God is in “need” of people who will love their neighbors. (Mark 12:3)
God is in “need” of people who will spread His word. (Matthew 28:19)
God is in “need” of people who will obey His commandments. (John 14:15)
God is in “need’’ of people who will intercede for others. (Isaiah 59:16)
If a friend in need is a friend indeed, are you God’s friend?
The truth is that God does not need anyone because He is self-sufficient, but there are things that He has entrusted to us because we are His friends.
I hope that, through God’s power, you will choose to be the friend of God.
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
