Look Back
It sounds awkward to say, “look back” when what we have been hearing are phrases like “look forward,” “past is dust,” “I don’t believe in yesterday, I believe in tomorrow,” and many more.
I don’t disagree we should not look back there are some situations in our lives we actually should not look back at all. But it comes a time when things look bad today, they may not seem to be working out and you are finding things to be unbearable and even things look like they will get worse tomorrow. It puts you in a place where you feel hopeless today and, at the same time, you feel you have no hope for a better tomorrow.
Exodus 17:3 And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, saying, “Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”
The Israelites were in a situation where they were so thirsty today that they thought the only thing left for tomorrow was death. They were so hopeless today that when they thought of tomorrow it was more hopelessness.
These are the Israelites complaining to Moses about water because they were thirsty. This is actually the second time they’re asking for water. The first time was at Marah, where the bitter waters were turned into sweet waters.
But if God provided water the previous time, do you think He would not provide water this time round?
If God had made it possible for them to pass through the Red Sea, was the provision of water something too hard for Him?
If God provided manna from heaven, what is providing water to Him?
When things are hard for us today, we tend to forget what God has done for us in the past. Therefore, we lose hope today and even become more hopeless when we think about tomorrow.
Look back!
Look back at the waters which were to drown you, but God saved you.
Look back at the fires which were to burn you, but God protected you.
Look back at the diseases which were to kill you, but God healed you.
Look back at the financial crisis you were in, but God opened a way.
Look back!
When things get bad today, and you feel there is even no hope tomorrow look back and consider how God has been fighting for you and trust Him that He will do it once again.
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
If He carried you through yesterday, He is still the same God who will carry you today and forever more.
Look Back!
